One more week passed in Santiago! Its hard to believe how fast its going. Two more weeks left in the change, zone conference this week, divisions the next, possible Antigua Pday on the 8th...all very exciting :)
This week was really...Different! Probably one of the crazier weeks weve had here. Tuesday I got a fever so we went to San Pedro for a pday breakfast and then I came back home and recovered a little bit. Wednesday I was still pretty sick, but Thursday we had interviews with President up in Solola. It started raining on Wednesday...and never stopped! Friday and Saturday it rained ALL day. Saturday we found out was Tropical Storm Agatha or whoever, so the mission president told us to stay inside. Santiago was fine, but the outskirts and the sister's area, San Lucas had mudslides, houses flooded, houses crushed, and lots of casualties (I think San Lucas actually had 50 or so deaths :(. Water was up to their knees, power out, the works. And on top of that, the sisters were on divisions, so even as we speak, Hermana Waldie is STILL stuck in Patzicia, theyre saying the roads wont be up again till Wednesday. And apparently on top of THAT, some volcano erupted in the capital and ash covered the sky the whole day! Lava flows knocked out the houses on the volcano. All very chaotic. In any case, we're just trucking along, waiting to see more developments. It looks like the rain has stopped but apparently it might come back. (Santiago is built on a plateau so really the water just goes straight into the lake, we're fine here.) We'll see!
Till next,
Tyler
Saw the news last night and quickly checked Tyler's blog! Whew! We were happy he and the other missionaries are safe & sound.
