Kaqchikel in Spanish!

Hey everyone! Another week has passed in Patzun. It goes SO fast! Does it feel as fast for you guys? It is weird to think that March 16th will be my 6th month in the mission. Crazy! :D
This week went by really well. We had our first Kaqchikel classes on Thursday! Weve only had one but it was very intense! I had no idea how hard it would be to learn a language THROUGH another language...:) But its been fun. It is a way cool language to hear, a lot of it reminds me of Navajo! And the sounds are HARD to do. But hopefully Ill at least be able to pick up conversational phrases.
The other day we started teaching this girl that lives with a family in our ward. Shes from another village and NOBODY there speaks spanish OR kaqchikel! Its been hard to teach her, but she understands a lot if we talk simply. Anyway on Saturday we watched The Restoration with her, and she said "I believe this is the true church." I was so excited for her! Hopefully we´ll make good progress this week :)
On Tuesday last week...we went up to SOLOLA!!! Oh my goodness it was incredible. We went to this town called PanaJachel that is right down by the lakeAtitlan (waters of Mormon). The drive down was beautiful. A lot of it reminds me of the scenes from Mamma Mia, the meditteranean coast along the rocks, and the hills and volcanoes were incredible. The mountains here are very much like the hills of Austria when you watch Sound of Music. Its so cool being in them!!! :) Lake Atitlan has twelve villages surrounding it, and they are all named after the twelve disciples (San Pedro, San Marcos, etc). Its kind of funny though because they include Matthew and Luke, and they actually werent apostles. Im thinking they nixed Judas... Anyway PanaJachel was WAY fun. Its a very touristy area, so there were actually alot of European and American visitors. There are lots of little shops where you can buy little cool things. I got a statuette of Tikal! Very cool, youll have to see. And we went down by the lake--SO cool. Ill send pics! And there is an American store there where you can buy Dr. Pepper! Its very expensive but I got two cans :) We actually might even go back tomorrow. Im way excited :D
Hope this week goes well for everyone. Everything is awesome in Guatemala. Elder Quentin Cook came here about a year ago and told the missionaries that when you are called, you arent called to the country you serve in--you are called to your mission president. I come to realize how incredible this is every passing day. I am so honored to work with President Baldwin (Elder Zwick of the 70 told Elder Dodge that very possibly, Baldwin is the BEST president in the world) and with the other missionaries here. We are doing good things :)
Love you very much and miss you. Until next week!
Tyler
